The EcoSurfer S2 is the most feature-complete solar skimmer here and the one with the smallest basket, which is an awkward combination because basket volume is the spec that decides a skimmer.
The chlorine dispenser is genuinely clever
A floating chlorine dispenser sits where the wind puts it, usually in one corner, dissolving sanitizer into a dead spot. A dispenser on a moving platform distributes it around the whole surface as the skimmer travels — which is better chemistry distribution than the static alternative, and it means one fewer object in your pool.
Aiper makes it adjustable, so you can tune the release rate. Worth watching your readings when you first use it: a dispenser that moves distributes differently from one that does not, and the CDC’s target ranges are what you are aiming at.
35 hours of battery and dual charging
This is the best answer on this site to the structural problem with solar skimmers: the shade that creates your leaf problem is the same shade that limits solar charging. A published 35-hour battery rides through cloudy spells, and dual charging lets you top it up from mains when a week of rain coincides with a week of leaf fall.
For a pool under genuinely heavy tree cover, that combination is worth more than it sounds — a skimmer that is flat on Thursday cleans nothing for the rest of the week.
The basket is the problem
4 liters, published. The Beatbot iSkim publishes 9. A skimmer with a full basket is a floating ornament, so the only question that matters is how many hours of leaf fall it absorbs before you walk out to empty it.
Under a mature oak in October, 4 liters is a twice-a-day chore and 9 liters is a once-a-day one. Over a six-week fall season that is roughly forty trips to the pool. If heavy leaf volume is your situation, the iSkim is the better machine and the head-to-head sets it out plainly.
If your debris is lighter — pollen, insects, the occasional leaf — 4 liters is perfectly adequate and the dispenser and battery make this the more useful machine.
What no skimmer does
Surface only. It will never touch your floor, walls or waterline. A skimmer is a complement to a floor robot, never a substitute — and the pairing of a corded floor machine with a solar skimmer removes more total debris than most single flagships, for less money. The skimmer roundup makes that case.
One more thing Aiper does not state: salt compatibility. The Beatbot iSkim and Betta SE both publish it; this listing does not, so do not assume it for a salt pool.
How we assessed it, and what we did not do
Every figure in the specification table on this page is attributed: to Aiper’s published specifications, to the Amazon listing for this exact model, or marked as not published where neither source gives a figure. The score is derived from those published numbers by the five-metric rubric, which is published in full.
We have not physically tested this machine. We do not run a test pool, we do not own this unit, and nothing on this site claims otherwise. What we do instead is show where every number comes from, say plainly who the machine is wrong for, and refuse to print a figure we cannot source. Where owner reports inform a point, they are described as owner reports — never as our own experience.
Who should skip it
Skip the Aiper EcoSurfer S2 if you only want to buy one machine. A skimmer is a complement to a floor robot, never a substitute.
That is not a throwaway line. The most expensive mistake in this category is buying a capable machine that is wrong for your pool — and a machine rated below your pool’s area or missing the one capability your debris requires cannot be fixed by any setting.

If you are still narrowing down, the selector tool works from your pool type, size, surface and dominant debris, and the Aiper brand guide covers the whole range and where it stops.
